CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES Photo

AIA / CES Courses and Descriptions

TRACO has designed a variety of innovative training seminars to keep you up-to-date with rapidly changing industry standards. TRACO is a registered Passport Provider with the AIA Continuing Education Program. The TRACO courses listed below are currently registered through the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
AIA/CES Passport Provider: TRACO J155
TRACO 1: AAMA Specification

This presentation covers the major performance aspects of the AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440-08 North American Fenestration Standard/Specification for windows, doors and skylights. This will also include the current AAMA rating system, what factors should be considered when selecting the proper window performance characteristics and a comparison of the current AAMA Specifications to the previous versions. Participants will also discover the benefits of including the current AAMA Specifications and AAMA Certified products in their bid documents, while maintaining the original quality and integrity of the overall project.
1 hour = 1 Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW) Learning Unit (LU)
TRACO 3: Window Installation Guidelines And Detailing

This session presents proper window installation and detailing of various window products and accessories. From new construction to historic replacement, the various components and options will be discussed. This format includes prime window application, receptor systems, subsills, pannings and interior trims. Participants will gain a better understanding of how these components work, how they interface with surrounding substrates and optional accessories available to assist in reducing the overall cost of the project.

TRACO 4: Plant Tour

The plant tour compliments the learning gained in many TRACO AIA/CES sessions. Participants will see first hand the following processes:

  1. How a simple aluminum billet is converted into a complex extruded architectural shape and structurally enhanced through the heat treatment process.
  2. How an architectural shape is finished to give it long-lasting beauty and color stability with anodizing or unlimited paint color choices.
  3. How an architectural shape is rendered energy-efficient by a process of a thermal break system which separates exterior metal from the interior.
  4. How an architectural extrusion is given shape by a unique process in application where curves are used.
  5. How the addition of inert gas into the glass airspace creates a highly efficient and long-lasting insulating glass unit.
  6. How all of these pieces are cut, fabricated and assembled into a cohesive product to be used in any building construction. In addition, there is a comprehensive tour of the
AAMA-certified test procedures and the testing of windows at TRACO to meet these stringent requirements. TRACO will provide an informal, written test to check participants’
understanding of the various facets of the tour. (Dependent upon proximity to one of TRACO’s manufacturing facilities.
