TRACO Plant Tour (PA Location Only)
The plant tour compliments the learning gained in many TRACO AIA/CES sessions. Participants will see first hand the following processes:

  • How a simple aluminum billet is converted into a complex extruded architectural shape and structurally enhanced through the heat treatment process.
  • How an architectural shape is finished to give it long-lasting beauty and color stability with anodizing or unlimited paint color choices.
  • How an architectural shape is rendered energy-efficient by a process of a thermal break system which separates exterior metal from the interior.
  • How an architectural extrusion is given shape by a unique process in application where curves are used.
  • How the addition of inert gas into the glass airspace creates a highly efficient and long-lasting insulating glass unit.
  • How all of these pieces are cut, fabricated and assembled into a cohesive product to be used in any building construction.

In addition, there is a comprehensive tour of the AAMA-certified test procedures and the testing of windows at TRACO to meet these stringent requirements. TRACO will provide an informal, written test to check participants' understanding of the various facets of the tour. (Dependent upon proximity to one of TRACO's manufacturing facilities.

Plant and Anodized Finishes
This presentation will explore the various finish options currently available for aluminum window and door products. Discussions will include different paint options and anodized finishes. This session will stipulate guidelines for the use and application of each finish, provide an understanding for current AAMA Finish Specifications, compare finish performance and demonstrate how to properly include this information within your written specifications.

Glass and Energy
This program provides a background for understanding how glass works in terms of heat loss, heat gain, shading coefficient and acoustic applications involving sound transmission coefficients (STC). Discussion includes available options such as tinted, reflective and low-E coatings. This session also provides additional information on how to reduce sash weights while maintaining glazing performance, possible effects on mechanical systems and utilizing glazing performance specifications.
